North American Beauty Events Announces
Newly Elected Board of DIRECTOR MEMBER BRUCE SELAN

(Show Release...)

Las Vegas, NV (November 8, 2007) - North American Beauty Events LLC (NABE), the joint venture organization managing the Cosmoprof North America event, is proud to announce the appointment of Bruce Selan, Vice President of Core Brands for Zotos International, Inc. to their Board of Directors.  NABE is a joint venture between the Professional Beauty Association and the Inziative Fieristiche Internazionali (IFI).  By serving a two year term on the board, Selan will play an instrumental part in furthering PBA and IFI strategic and financial goals.

A 35 year veteran of the professional beauty industry, Bruce began his career working for his family business as a recruiter for Selan’s Beauty Schools in Chicago.  After a short career in the education sector of the industry, he decided his passion was in the manufacturing sector where he began a long career with Helene Curtis Professional.  Beginning as a district sales manager in the Michigan region, Selan was quickly promoted to a regional manager position back in the Chicago-land area responsible for the entire 13 mid-western states. In 1978 Helene Curtis promoted Selan again and moved him to Kansas City to become President of one of their wholly owned subsidiaries where he learned the professional beauty distribution business.  After he tripled the size of the Kansas City operation over a period of 5 years, Helene Curtis moved him back to Chicago and promoted him to Vice-President of the entire Beauty Distribution Business.  Selan helped grow that division to a $100 million dollar business prior to Helene Curtis exiting the distribution portion of the professional industry.  In 1992 Helene Curtis moved Selan back to their professional division as Vice President of Sales, where he continued to build their professional brand to one of the largest and most respected manufacturers in the professional industry.  In 1996, after parent company Helene Curtis sold their business to Unilever, the Helene Curtis Professional Division was purchased by Shiseido, one of the world’s leading beauty companies.  The only senior management to be moved as part of the acquisition, Selan orchestrated a merger between Helene Curtis Professional and ZOTOS International.  As Vice President of Core Brands for Zotos International, Inc. since the merger, Selan has had a long career in building both the hair care and perm business for the company into a respected leader in the industry.  He is dedicated to seeing distributors grow their business and to giving salons the education necessary to succeed.

Selan has a passion for the professional beauty industry that has grown with him over the 35+ years he has spent in the business and his goal is to see the industry that he loves continue to prosper.  He also holds a major board position with the Professional Beauty Association, where today he is President of the Manufacturers Council.

The event, held July 15-17, brought 699 exhibiting companies and more than 25,000 attendees including importers, distributors, and global beauty leaders all under one roof to experience the cutting-edge in cosmetics, wellness, spa, hair care, skincare, nails, product development and packaging from every corner of the globe.
Cosmoprof North America attracts the new, innovative brands in addition to the well known names including Creative Nail Design, TIGI, Essie, Conair, Rusk, L’Oreal Technique, z.one concept, Orly, Elchim, Tweezerman, Cuccio, Denman, OPI Nail, Ahava, and LPG.

In addition to leading beauty industry professionals, many of the top trade publications from across the globe traveled to Cosmoprof North America to seek out the newest trends emerging among this year’s exhibitors.  Consumer media followed suit including the Today Show of NBC, Latina Magazine, Italian Vanity Fair and New Beauty and many others.

Through close-knit collaborations with countries seeking to expand their foreign trade in beauty, Cosmoprof North America was able to dedicate special sections within the show floor to distinct International Country Pavilions.  Country Pavilions allowed small and medium sized companies from within select markets to participate in the Cosmoprof North America event with the objective of obtaining face time with distributors and retailers to secure US distribution.  The support and council of Country Pavilion organizers allowed exhibitors to take part in a trade show event in the US and obtain an understanding of this marketplace.  Additionally, the presence of Country Pavilion organizers, who are representatives of foreign cosmetic industry associations on the show floor, allowed US manufacturers interested in those particular markets to obtain market intelligence.  Featured this year were Thailand, Brazil, Italy, France and China.

Taking note of the ever growing strength of emerging markets, Cosmoprof North America re-affirmed its commitment to the International Buyer Program and its position in the industry as the international beauty hub.  The International Buyer Program, a Cosmoprof exclusive, united buyers and sellers around the world with the resources, contacts and data to build business.  For the fifth consecutive year, beauty and cosmetics companies showcasing their products at Cosmoprof North America were offered the opportunity to meet one-on-one as part of pre-scheduled appointments with selected importers and distributors.  The organizers of Cosmoprof North America invited a selection of international buyers from Chile, Ecuador, Jamaica, Mexico, Uruguay, and Venezuela to participate.

Debuting at this year’s show was Discover Beauty, Cosmoprof North America’s newest initiative.  This groundbreaking program was designed to assist emerging brands in finding the proper market, while spotlighting the newest trends for retail buyers.   Discover Beauty participants had the opportunity to meet with buyers from North America’s top retail institutions including Bergdorf Goodman, Henri Bendel, Sephora, Nordstrom, Fred Segal Studio, Cos Bar, Beauty Collection, and Wynn Las Vegas Apothecary.  Presented in partnership with Women’s Wear Daily, Discover Beauty displayed an innovative lineup of brands just being launched to market alongside Beauty Imports - established international brands breaking into the U.S. marketplace.

The North American Hairstyling Awards (NAHA), the professional hair care industry’s single most important awards event of the year, were also held in conjunction with Cosmoprof North America, on Sunday, July 15th, with TV host and fashion guru Steven Cojocaru hosting.  Winners showcasing the talent and creativity of the professional beauty industry in North America were announced at a star-studded gala at Mandalay Bay.
